Era: The time of the early church (Acts 7:58; 28:30-31)
Paul
The persecutor who became the apostle to the Gentiles
Saul, also called Paul, was a Jew from Tarsus, a Pharisee and a Roman citizen. At first he fiercely persecuted the followers of Jesus, until, on the road to Damascus, a light from heaven brought him to the ground and he heard the voice of Jesus. From then on he preached Christ among Jews and Gentiles.
He travelled through Asia Minor, Macedonia and Greece founding churches, endured prisons, beatings and shipwrecks, and wrote letters that make up a large part of the New Testament. The book of Acts ends with him in Rome, preaching freely for two years in a rented house.
