Era: The time of Jesus and the early church (Matthew 4:18; Acts 15:7)

Peter

The fisherman who fell, wept and rose again

Simon was a fisherman from Galilee, the brother of Andrew, when Jesus called him to leave his nets. Jesus gave him a new name, Cephas or Peter, meaning "a stone." He was one of the twelve apostles and appears again and again in the Gospels: he confesses that Jesus is the Christ, walks for a moment on the water and, on the night of the arrest, denies three times that he knows him.

After the resurrection, Jesus restores him by the sea. In the book of Acts, Peter preaches at Pentecost, heals in the name of Jesus, is put in prison and opens the door of the gospel to the Gentiles in the house of Cornelius.
