Era: The time of Jesus (Luke 8:1-3; John 20:1)
Mary Magdalene
The first to find the empty tomb and to say, "I have seen the Lord"
Mary called Magdalene was one of the women who followed Jesus through Galilee and supported him from what they had. Jesus had set her free from seven devils. She was near the cross when he died and saw where his body was laid.
On the first day of the week, very early, she went to the tomb and found it empty. According to the Gospel of John, the risen Jesus called her by name, and she went to tell the disciples that she had seen the Lord. The Bible never says she was a prostitute; that idea came centuries later.
