Stephen

Stephen was one of the seven men the church in Jerusalem chose to care for the widows in the daily distribution. The book of Acts describes him as a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, who also did great wonders among the people.

Accused before the council by false witnesses, he gave a long speech that walks through the history of Israel. He was taken out of the city and stoned while he prayed for those who were killing him. Among those present was a young man named Saul, who would later become the apostle Paul.
